“The Courtship, by Satan, of a fire breathing poodle”
is one of my favorites. it is a large piece. (4 feet by 5 feet) painted in 2004, the summer before I started at art school.
There are a lot of layers to this one. The largest hidden images are of both a self portrait of my face, as well as the mona lisa. I think that may be a tongue in cheek thing, that I was saying, this is my mona lisa, in some way. There are a ton of things going on. I got the title from a skeleton man that is in there, pleading with a pink poodle. there is a wine class in between them, part of mona lisa’s forehead.
The wine in the glass is the poodle’s fire, which he is breathing on satan.
in these kinds of paintings,… every piece of imagery is part of at least three scenes, simultaneously.
