Gemstone in the Sky
2012
This photograph is an uneditioned and unretouched instant film 4x5 print created not with Photoshop but by a multi-exposure process whereby the artist makes light-blocking stencils that allow for sections of the film to be exposed selectively. Each image requires a series of different stencils (from 5 to 15) that must align to create one seamless image. The entire process happens ‘in camera’ and the resulting ‘Polaroid’ image is the result of a controlled, yet blind, guesswork of time, placement, and overall harmony.
