    Today marks the 105th birthday of Frida Kahlo!
Known for her fantastical imagery and folkloric style, Kahlo earned recognition among the Surrealists, but her intriguing persona and originality propelled her beyond the confines of a specific movement to become a leading figure in modern art.
Pictured: photos taken during our 2008 Frida Kahlo retrospective, when artist Rene Yanez gathered many actresses at SFMOMA to portray the iconic and much beloved artist for a piece called “Pasion por Frida.”

    The Dymaxion house, invented by Buckminster Fuller, was well before its time. As a fold-out kit, the Dymaxion house exhibited a futuristic look at sustainability with many environmental features.

    Indeed, the Dymaxion House was “one man’s vision of the home of the future.”

    Are you curious about what Robert Rauschenberg erased during the creation of his fascinating Erased de Kooning Drawing? As part of an extensive Rauschenberg research project, SFMOMA staff took infrared pictures of the piece to see what the original de Kooning sketch may have looked like.
